THE EARLY YEARS...

Jack Procter started learning martial arts at 13 years old, he had tried classes in Nottingham when he was eight but the ethos of the club was not for him.

In 1999 he found Camelford Shotokan Karate club and he was hooked. Shihan Roger Tarrant taught Jack from the start until February 2017.

It was also Roger who introduced Jack to Aikido in 2000 when he opened up the Camelford club. The dynamic techniques of this powerful art encapsulated Jack, taking him from a complete novice to where he is today.

Jack competed regularly in the inter club Karate competitions with students from Camelford and Wadebridge, competing in Kumite and kata. Not always winning, not by a long shot, but always looking to learn from each loss.

Jack trained in the children's class for a few years at Karate and then trained in both the kids and adult sessions weekly until stepping up to just the adults. At Aikido, there was only an adults class. This meant Jack was near enough always the smallest person in the class.

Looking back he now sees that this truly developed his technique in a good way as he could never out muscle his training partners.

BECOMING A SENSEI...

In 2004, after having trained the two arts side by side, Jack reached his 1st Dan black belt in both disciplines.

Thankfully the knowledge has stayed but not the HAIR!!!

From here Jack took on the children's Karate class and the adult Aikido class from his instructor, and Jack taught them up until he left the associations to start up his own. During his time Jack successfully increased the popularity of traditional arts within the area.

After many years of being an assistant instructor of the adults Karate class, in November 2015 Jack took on the adult class too.

Jack was the head instructor of the chidlrens's and adult's classes in both Shotokan Karate and Traditional Aikido within Camelford until his departure from the TBAA and TBKA in Feb '17.

ANOTHER STRING TO THE BOW...

While running his clubs and training to keep his standards up Jack took on the challenge of learning Judo, once again under the guidance of Roger Tarrant who is a 3rd Dan Judo-ka.

Jack started by attending the Camelford Judo club once a month just to learn the floor work aspect of Judo but after 6 months of this he started practising weekly at the club (at the end of 2012) to learn all parts of Judo.

After having trained in martial arts for 13 years at this point, the aspects of Judo came more quickly to him than a complete beginner enabling him to quickly move up through the grades.

After several years of weekly training he passed his 1st Dan Black belt on 4th November 2015 by completing the "Nage No Kata" and completing the fighting aspect of having to win 5 fights. This was one of his hardest gradings but an accomplishment he was very pleased to achieve.

DEDICATION PAYS OFF...

At this point (Nov 2015) he held a 3rd Dan in Traditional Aikido, a 3rd Dan in Shotokan Karate and a 1st Dan in Traditional Judo, all before he was thirty years old.

Then in June 2016 Sensei Jack took his 4th Dan grading in Shotokan Karate along side his training partner Sensei Tom Lintell. Both Tom and he passed under the watchful eyes of Shihan Roger Tarrant (6th Dan) and Sensei Steve Moine (5th Dan and Head instructor of the Wadebridge Shotokan Karate club.)

A NEW ERA...

In February 2017, Sensei Jack took the big decision to brake away from Shihan Roger's association to start up his own, as he wanted to develop the arts in his own vision and create a true community around them.

He named it the Traditional Warriors Martial Arts Association.

Since then things have rapidly developed and the evolution of the arts and clubs have truly soared despite being the only instructor and black belt to have moved across to the new association. Fortunately he has had many members of the Warriors community by his side to help. This has meant aspects like regular gradings and competitions have continued and becoming even bigger than before, along with new aspects such as guest instructors and classes like 'Striking 101.'

And this path continues for all the Warriors.

As we learn and grow we evolve, thankfully I do
this with the Warriors by my side.
