Autumn Term 2
Well, here we are. Writing that difficult second newsletter! Ive written plenty of newsletters before but after the great response I got from my first online letter, I am feeling the nerves of the “Tricky second” newsletter. Obviously, the fans want more of the same but as a newsletter writer I’ve got to look to express my creativity and try new genres.
Or maybe we will just keep it to nice pics and a few words, but I do have a new element for you to try, if you would like at the end.
Apart from writing this letter (with my budding sidekick). I started, sorry - we started, to edit a few clips of the competitions and I must say, some of the clips are fantastic. Look out for them on our social media platforms in the coming weeks.
We have our grading and Warriors Christmas course all coming up, plus the launch of our new Hoodies!
Go Team Traditional Warriors!
So, let’s get to it!
C O M P E T I T I O N
Wow, what a successful day that was!
Well done to everyone who stepped out of their comfort zone and stepped on to those Tatami in front of all those spectators and looked across to see another highly trained warrior opposite! That is a win in its self, no matter what the result. Every single participation medal was earned that day!
Our first ever Gi Grappling competition was tremendous, the floor work was exceptional - it even surpassed my own expectations and the newly learnt leg taking takedowns were well executed!
The Karate Warriors stepped up next and took some big shots, but everyone battled on through and gave 100%. It was great to see students repeatedly using the aspects we had practised in training and score points with them!
Major thanks to my helpers in Oli and Ellie, I really could not have got through 7.5 hours of being a ref without your support - So thank you!
G R A D I N G I N F O - Saturday 26th November 2022
At St Teath Church Hall (The same place as the comp).
Please note, it was stated that the judo grading would be a different date, but is now the same day as the karate grading.
Fees on the post.
Please note, Black Belt grading's will be a different price, I will be in touch.
If you are unsure if you are up for grading, please speak to me.
Friday Nights
Don’t forget that we are also running sessions on a Friday evening for November (except not the night before the grading) to help support those who may like a few extra training sessions before the grading.
These sessions are planned so that they are not just a repeat of the training sessions earlier in the week.
Or message me regarding a 121 session one weekend.
key dates
Below are our keys dates for the rest of this term and a date to save for our Warriors Christmas course, where we will do a session of our martial art games, then a session on some fun techniques, followed by a session on a few weapons.
The first two sessions will be open to all, with the last session only open to Juniors and above.
More details on this will be provided soon.
Memberships
Oh no! It’s that little black book I put in a safe place! But the place is too safe!
Yes, get hunting as you will need this book for grading!
Also, October is one of our membership sign on dates, for some of you this will mean you need to renew your yearly membership to the Warriors. Which is easy, I will send home your membership form and you just need to check that all the information is correct. If it is, sign and date it on the back at the bottom of the page, if it isn’t you will need to complete a new form.
For our new starters
I will send a blank form home with you for your parents to complete.
The yearly membership insures you with the Warriors for all your training sessions, competitions and gradings. It also provides me with any much needed info.
Memberships are £30 per year or £25 if you have multiple Warriors in your household.
Warrior Hoody Line
I can not tell you how excited (and relieved) I am to finally release our Warrior inspired new Hoody line. You really won’t know the work and time that has gone in to these hoodies, I may write a blog where I can bore you with all the little details of the designs but for now, Ill just leave you with the info.
The Viking Warrior Hoody
The hoody on the left, in the Charcoal, is inspired by the Nordic Warriors of strength and courage plus the Zeppelin song mixed with a little Thor Ragnarok - not forgetting the almighty Odin.
The Samurai Hoody
Then the hoody on the right, in the light Grey, is connecting to the Japanese roots of the meaning of the word ‘Warrior’ being a samurai! Though you may suggest I am more of a Ronin.
The hoodies are made by the team at Design2Create at Wadebridge, so a big thanks to them for getting them done, but also thanks must go to Tina as I’ve bored her silly with countless designs. We will have hoodies in the Dojo for you to try sizes over the next few weeks but do order early if you want them for Christmas. Speak to me about ordering, but soon there will be an order page.
Sizes go from 5-6years up to 11-12years then extra small to extra Extra large in adults. If it helps, I wear a medium adults.
Prices
5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 years - £23
Xs, S, M, L, XL, XXL - £28
The Viking hoody only comes in the charcoal and the Samurai design only comes in the light grey. I am more than happy for adults who may not train but bring Warriors to sessions to purchase them as well. It’s a great way to advertise our name, so no one forgets the Traditional Warriors!
Nearly there…
Below are this terms fees, please note;
If you pay for a Monday or Tuesday class this is only for these nights and Friday evening sessions are a different payment. Therefore if you miss a Monday or Tuesday session you can not exchange it for a Friday night class.
Cross training
For those who train a second art (judo and Karate or Judo and STRIKE etc) it will be £5 off the prepay fee for the second block of training for the same Warrior (this does not include Friday night training.)
Last Thing;
Here is my new creative direction of my newsletter writing, an interactive bit. Oooooooo!
Now I am happy for Warriors or adults, even both to provide the following response - So get talking to your Warriors…
What is a Sensei to you? What traits should they have? What morals? What Lessons? Etc
Provide your thoughts below.
Apart, from that…Thanks for reading that “Tricky Second” Newsletter.

Here we are, back to training!
I hope everyone had a fabulous summer with a chance to chill, though I know for some of you now is the time to chill with the summer season over.
I had a great summer with lots time with the family and plenty of hot chocolates (with cream of course) and ice creams - depending on my mood. I even had this new revolutionary thing called a “Mocha” I won’t be having one again, but I tried it.
We also had a great time during our Warriors’ summer training where we looked at plenty of MMA skills, a few self defence scenarios and we played about with the Nunchucks - check out our 6 videos on social media to see what we got up to.
If you couldn’t make the summer classes do not fear, as I understand for some the opportunity to not have a set schedule and to take some down time is very much needed. Hopefully you are gearing yourselves back up for the restart of training!
W H A T’S T H I S ? You may be thinking, why am I seeing this newsletter online? Well, I intend to do less paper stuff this year not just to save the planet and keep Greta happy but to also save myself time. Running the Warriors, mainly by yourself and teaching all the sessions along side a full time job is a little time consuming and I often find myself forgetting about my own training and wellbeing to just do paper work - hence this. Yes I still have to write it all but if anyone needs a newsletter I can just tell them to check here. You never know it might become an email thing, but I need to work that one out yet. Also, it looks better with a few pictures. Hopefully it reads better too!
It is now time to don the Gi once again (well for most of our sessions) and go back to regular training, as we have many events coming up all before that holiday in December.
Below are our session times and prices, just incase you have forgotten.
The 2022-2023 Warriors season starts from Monday 12th September, and I see this as an opportunity to start building again. As the last few years I’ve just been grateful to be back to training, and looked to catch everyone up on the training they missed - trying to get back the skills they had and get them through a few gradings which were missed as well.
Now is a time to start building back the momentum the Warriors had prior to this, hopefully you will see this not just in new comers but also the events we had planned.
With the start of the new school term we often see an increase in the numbers in each class. To grow we are going to have to take our numbers up but the focus is always on quality rather than quantity. Saying this, the first few sessions back may seem overly busy but bear in mind that this is due to the new starters and everyone getting back to it. Things will even out over the first 6 weeks, and if they don’t we will look to shuffle a few classes about to get back to a more comfortable class size. Juts give me time to see how things start.
Apart from that, its back to training - back in the Gi please! That’s the main stuff but carry on reading below for other future happenings and our new class!
There are also I M P O R T A N T D A T E S below!
Lastly, if you find a speling or grammatical mistake, aint you amazing but I don’t need to know - I’m fine being ignorant. I mean that sincerely ;-)

Below are the key dates coming up of extra trainings, competitions, half term, grading and December dates. Extra info regarding times and places will go out nearer the time.
U P C O M I N G E V E N T S
Firstly, we have an ADULT BEGINNERS class starting on Monday 12th September, so if you’ve ever wanted to try Aikido or Judo then get in contact and pop along! There’s more details on our social media pages or check out our ‘Blog’ (I know, get me!) in the menu bar.
Then there’s our N E W C L A S S starting this week called S T R I K E - it is basically my version of mixed martial arts (MMA) for people aged 9 years and up. Within the class students will learn aspects such as striking, grappling, throws, takedowns, groundwork all not in a Gi and with no belt system.
I highly recommend C R O S S T R A I N I N G so to encourage this I have made it that your second block payment for the half term is half price. Therefore a Junior/Teen student could do their traditional art at £27 for the half term but get the STRIKE class for £10.50.
A one off W O M E N ‘ S S E L F D E F E N C E session on Friday 30th September at the usual place of St Teath Dojo. Warrior parents get the 2 hour session for a mere £5 as a thank you for supporting the club week in week out, where as others get it at £7.
All the above events are in our ‘Blog’ for further details.
Just before the summer break a few were asking about H O O D I E S. We are in the process of getting 2 new designs printed within the next 2 weeks, meaning that we should have some new apparel for you to look at very soon. More details to follow.
